CASA LEONARDO
Our experiences are unique, off-the-beaten-path,
and immersive opportunities that create lifelong Memories
Casa Leonardo is located in the midst of an extraordinary natural and
historical with plenty spots that touch us deeply allow us to remember
them as rich stories and these stories are more socially and economically
sustainable. This nature gives us so much that it is in our DNA to devote
our efforts to protecting it and improving it by regenerating it.
Emit less · offset local · co-found micro-reserves
WHAT WE DO IT?
EMIT LESS, OFFSET LESS
We focus on prevention, cutting our emissions first, before correction
- Reduction of negative environmental and social impacts (waste minimization, selective waste management systems, water saving, energy efficiency, local sourcing, lovingly restored our house);
We work nonstop to reduce the ecological footprint without sacrificing the experience investing into home automation.
- Reduction of the carbon footprint of visitors (optimization of means of transport, organization of multi-day ecotourism trips like el Cinquè Llac, search for nearby markets).
OFFSET BETTER, OFFSET LOCAL
Offsetting goes local regenerating our landscape, improving the microreserves
of Gratitud Pallars and we invite our guests to do the same.
Valuation and preservation of heritage and compensation of the carbon footprint through the Gratitud Pallars initiative.
Thanks to all these commitments, Casa Leonardo has obtained the Ecolabel certification and the Distinctive Guarantee of Environmental Quality of Catalonia (DGQA).
“Offsetting” is the act of balancing out the carbon footprint of something (or someone) by funding an equivalent reduction of carbon emissions planting trees elsewhere, most of them on low-income countries.
Gratitud Pallars does not use the reforestation projects to offset carbon emissions because:
- We want offset locally.
- We want 100% of the donations to go to improving biodiversity and raising
awareness and not in the management of the project. - Forests in Catalonia occupy more than 60% of the territory, exceeding the
European average of 37%. In this context, it does not make sense to plant more trees and better tree management is indeed needed. - Most of the reforestation projects don’t take in account the local people.
- Trees can take many years before they start drawing down carbon in significant quantities.
- Trees not absorb carbon at a linear rate throughout their lifetime.
- An average of 40% of the trees die.
- The plantations and the consequent land movement involve oil consumption.
- Carbon capture and storage is a long biological process.
We compensate our impacts. How? THE SUSTAINABLE GAME
We invite our customers to join our sustainability challenge. And the game’s prize? Helping wildlife with your sustainable actions.
WHAT YOU CAN DO IT?
We co-found micro-reserves with your sustainable actions.
Which actions?
- Arriving with public transport
- Sharing your car during your stay>
- Stopping driving and starting walking
- Putting on any suntan cream before you went swimming in our natural places
- Using water bottle
- Trying our home cooking
- Asking for local picnics
- Buying local products
- Extending your staygetting involve in gratitud:
- Offsetting your carbon footprint
- Becoming a volunteer
- Sponsoring dry-stone walls.
WHAT IS THE VALUE OF EACH ACTION?
If you book directly will us we will donate 0.50€ to one of Gratitud Pallars conservation projects wihich we are collaborating; which one is up to you.If you book through an Online Travel Agencies we will only donate 0.25€ for every one of your sustainable actions.
You are a key piece in the puzzle!
SUSTANTIBILITY GAME
Since 2019, with the creation of Gratitud Pallars, we WE CO-FOUND MICRORESERVES with the sustainability actions you have taken during your stay at Casa Leonardo and that you have confirmed in the sustainability game.

OUR ENVIRONMENT PROJECT:
We are giving back to our Nature
We designed & promoted
GRATITUD PALLARS
We have been looking for ways to use offsetting to tackle a wider range of issues closer to home.
We designed Gratitud Pallars to maximise impact prevention measures(avoid and minimise) over corrective mesures (restoration and offset), balancing development priorities with the sustainable use of natural resources.

Creation of micro-reserves to prevent, emit less & raise awareness
Micro-reserves are small spaces, from a few hundred square meters to a few hundred hectares, managed under the guise of private nature reserves with a biodiversity and/or heritage conservation project.
Some microreserves are awareness-raising where we restore paths and dry stone walls to bring locals and visitors closer to nature and especially children with
the aim of making them love nature and change their consumption habits to produce less emissions.
Carbon compensation has never been a free pass and buying offsets should not allow you to be careless about cutting CO2 emissions.
Others are conservation micro-reserves where the ecosystem is monitored and improved.
